HOW ELSE CAN YOU SUPPORT MCA?

A really simple but effective way to help support the change we all want is by adding your name and address to our list for when we advocate by contacting local MPs in regards to current maternity initiatives we are driving.

What this means is when we contact your local MP, we will add your name and address so that the MP knows that their voters want them to join us in positive changes to the maternity system.

If you would like to have your name added when we contact your local MP, please log in as a member and fill in all the details.

Here at Maternity Choices Australia we are always on the lookout for volunteers to contribute their skills to helping improve the care that women receive in pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

If you're interested in consumer advocacy or consumer representation, you can check the box on our Login form, click below to take you to our Login Form.

#ENDBIRTHRESTRICTIONS win

Western Sydney LHD consumer advocate Kristyn Begnell lead the charge on having uncalled for restrictions on partners and support people attending births in that region. After consistent pressure from Kristyn & supporters, the NSW Ministry of Health have made it clear that health services should be allowing partners and/or support people to attend with birthing women, however, in the process Kristyn lost her position as consumer advocate on the Western Sydney LHD consumer advocacy panel.

Kristyn attracted a lot of media attention and one of her interviews can be heard below.

National Strategic Approach to Maternity Services

Azure is lead consumer rep at the Gold Coast University Hospital's steering committee to implement the National Strategic Approach to Maternity Services (NSAMS). She is advocating for the inclusion of evidence based information, one component of which relates to the risks of episiotomies in the standard (and insufficient) information regarding perineal tear prevention provided by the Aust. Safety and Quality in Healthcare Commission. She is excited to see this body of work progress and hopes there are some obstetricians at GCUH willing to work towards this effort to provide maternity consumers respectful care. Complete implementation NSAMS will ensure their practice is in line with Qld Human Rights Act 2019.
